Inspiring Contemporary Architectural Designs in Uganda To Look out For in 2022.

While there is no clear definition of what constitutes contemporary architecture, it comprises a range of present day building styles that often look radically different from one another and sometimes from anything that has come before.

What Is Contemporary Architecture?

Contemporary architecture” essentially refers to the current style of architecture. For example, a house built this year according to current trends would be considered contemporary architecture. But contemporary architecture isn’t limited to large-scale starchitect-designed buildings. It can also be more modestly expressed in the inventive spheroid-shaped sustainable Eco capsule tiny house from Eastern Europe designed for off-grid living anywhere in the world. It could also be  a treehouse hotel in a Ugandan touristic forest.

Modern contemporary Architecture reminds us of simpler times when you would sit on the front pouch and enjoy conversations with friends way before social media came into play. What better way to recreate this authentic style than with modern architecture. The building method  lets you blend with the outside as the exterior showcases a mixture of materials and the surrounding scenic beauty of the landscape. Modern Contemporary Architecture is characterised by the following;

Raw Materials.

The raw materials used in this kind of architecture are raw and natural like wood, stone, glass and metal. These create minimalism and simplicity that is embraced throughout the building.

   The materials; wood, metal and glass blend seamlessly with the surrounding nature.

Clean Lines.

This is one of the most outstanding characteristics. This kind of build favours curved and clean lines that display a minimalist movement throughout all the open spaces.

The lines in this kind of architecture are unbroken and uninterrupted.

Natural Light.

Contemporary architecture relies on large windows, high ceilings and general openness of the space.

The expansive panels of large windows allow a never-ending view of the outdoors and bring plenty of natural light. The windows also create a feeling of lightness and openness hence increasing a home’s connection to the natural environment.

 Natural light falls into the hall from different directions, providing sufficient lighting during the daytime.

Harmony with nature and Outdoors.

Modern contemporary architecture revolves on the desire to create harmony between the structure and nature. The foremost use of the large glass wall is to allow the boundaries between the indoor and outdoors to merge. Furthermore spaces are designed putting into consideration  decks and balconies that emphasise the enjoyment of stunning natural surroundings.

The design makes room for nature, specifically trees, revealing the beauty and importance of environmental unity.

The Open Plan Kitchen:

The Beating Heart of Every Home.

Way back when, most affluent upper-class households had servants and So most kitchens were designed and built as completely separate rooms of the house. The kitchen of old was a service area, designed to be separate from the eating and social areas. Over the years that followed, the rise of the middle-class changed things. Kitchens creeped closer to the living areas, because homes were being designed to function without servants and families started using kitchen spaces themselves. Transformation in kitchen design has opened the doors to new appliances designed for our changing needs. The modern kitchen has become a place where many  people prefer to spend more time at home. So our kitchens are no longer designed for one or two people to cook a meal in – it’s designed for 5, 8 or 10 people to socialise in!

The kitchen has become the heart of the home in every sense.

Large Windows.

Contemporary architecture is clean and bright, and that means windows are prominently featured. Truly outstanding modern homes make extensive use of large and unique window designs to let in plenty of natural light and views, but they aim to make a strong architectural statement as well.

The Large windows not only let in a ton of natural light that shines through and filters  light deeper in the interior But also they give a Quintessential display of how the home harmonises with nature while offering endless views of the splendour.

Large windows give you a clear view of the outdoors, making your home feel brighter, more natural and more inspiring

Modern architecture also allows you to reap a couple of benefits while trying to achieve efficiency and being environmentally friendly. Today many are embracing modern contemporary style of building realising that there are many benefits to such house plans which are;

Lighting:

Lighting plays a vital role in the way people experience and understand architecture. Whether buildings and structures are lit naturally or artificially, lighting is the medium that allows us to see and appreciate the beauty in the buildings around us. It can bring an emotional value to architecture – it helps create an experience for those who occupy the  space. Whether it’s daylighting or artificial lighting, light draws attention to textures, colors, and forms of a space, helping architecture achieve its true purpose. The panoramic window walls give enough light without compromising privacy and brightness levels. It also greatly cuts down on electricity bills.

Timeless looks with high-quality furnishings

Room for customization.

Modern contemporary design does not necessarily rely on symmetry leaving room for future expansion and customization.

An open plan layout that allows  personal customization of any kind of furniture arrangements.

Spaciousness.

This kind of build uses space efficiently and complements the entire structure as a whole. With high ceilings, hallways, there is room for maximum airflow and minimal traditional spaces. It also seeks a balance between space and the overall home size not limiting the living spaces. The living spaces are never limited to indoor spaces but extend to the way the house was built into the surrounding environment.

The space allows the focal points to shine.

Aesthetically Pleasing Design.

Designs that shine maintain a balance between design, structural efficiency and overall aesthetic value. These plans feature a large, bold, exterior element, mixture of wood, stone, glass metal hence creating sharp clean lines. Remember you will be living in- looking at- your home for many years so why not make it eye pleasing while you are at it?

There are so many fascinating elements used in contemporary architecture. From the highly practical to the aesthetically striking, architects and builders today aren’t afraid to push boundaries to create innovative structures with features that are evolving the way we interact with the buildings we live, work, and play in.

Whether you are thinking about building a custom home or you’d like to update your property with a remodel, you’ll want to have an idea of what design and architectural features are being used today. The more you know about contemporary architecture, the more inspiration and insight you’ll have to draw upon for your project – and the more likely you are to end up with results you love.
